If you have a vinyl or cassette recording with separate tracks on it, you most likely want to export those tracks as separate audio files for your computer’s music library, or so you can burn them to separate tracks on an audio CD. This is easily accomplished in Audacity, using labels and the export multiple function.

Heres an interested GPS fact we learnt today.

Any kind of GPS receiver (Veloset included) is required to disable itself when it reaches speeds over 1200MPH at altitudes over 60K feet. The reason being, is that it could be easily used to guide an intercontinental ballistic missile. This is known is the CoCom Limits. CoCom is the acronym for Coordinating Committee for Multilateral Export Controls which was established after the second World War. So if you’re interested in building a GPS guided missile make sure to slow it down to 1100MPH and stay below 60K feet.

Microsft has a tendancy to get its USB mappings in a muddle, it’s well documented, discussed and also hotfixed by microsoft, generally caused by failing to remove old mappings for devices that are no longer needed. With over 250 million results in google, we thought we would create another how to!

The UltraDisk Software when launched from the DVR10 may show that you have no recordings, most likely as it is looking at the incorrect removable storage drive, drive letters are not mapped correctly with multiple USB removable storage..

Launching the Ultradisk voicememoplayer.exe from the CD partition of the UltraDisk, you may see that the software is pointing to a drive letter, this is where the rec_data folder should bemapped to. In the case below the removable storage location is I: but has not mapped to it correctly via Microsoft Windows, in some cases it may not even appear!

To correct the drive allocation problem you will need to allocate the missing drive to the letter to the letter specified in the UltraDisk software, in our example it should be mapped to letter I: (see Fig 1)

Manage my computer

Mapping, Reallocating and removing drive allocation is a simple process, managed via the ‘my computer’ window. To do this

Go to Start button, select Computer, Right mouse click over my computer in the left menu and select Manage from the drop down list.

Select the Disk Management option from the left menu from within the computer management concole and note that the UltraDisk 2GB

DVR10 is not mapped to a Drive letter (highlighted). We can identify it by

its Fat32, and storage space. (some is reserved fro the software, so its always a little bit less!)

Manuall Allocate a drive letter (that matches the one referenced in the Software)

This device should be now mapped to the letter corresponding to the drive letter referred to by the voicememoplayer.exe software. In our example it was I.

Drive letters will vary depending on what you have connected to your PC.

So map it to the one referenced in the voicememoplayer.exe software.

Right mouse click over the device that has no drive and allocate it to the drive required by the voicememoplayer.exe software.

Selecting the drive letter

If the drive letter is not in the list, but reffered to, it means it is already allocated to a removable device and this will need freeing up before you can dedicate it to your UltraDisk DVR10. Maybe a camera or external device has mapped itself and not released it, you can reallocate the drive to another letter.

Thats more like it.

Map the UltraDisk drive to the correct drive letter and relaunch the UltraDisk software, it will now show the contents of the mapped drive showing your voice recordings.

A: This is usually caused by a software firewall installed on your computer. Check the settings of your firewall for options that block or permit applications to connect to the Internet. If your firewall needs to allow specific programs access to the Internet, allowing the standard Windows rundll32.exe program should work. You’ll find rundll32.exe in the c:\Windows\System32 directory on your computer.

Q: Why don’t I see the CIS (Center for Internet Security) benchmark?

Q: The Advisor has installed and finished a discovery of my PC’s hardware and software, but I do not see any results.

A: This usually happens when the Windows file assocation, for the HTML file extension, is misconfigured on your computer. Most often, this is caused by trying out a new browser and then uninstalling it from your computer. Here’s how you can fix that.

On Windows 7: Open Windows explorer to the c:\Program Files\Belarc\Advisor\System\tmp directory (on 64-bit Windows c:\Program Files (x86)\Belarc\Advisor\System\tmp). Then right click on the file named (COMPUTERNAME).html (where COMPUTERNAME is the name of your PC) and click Open With… on the pop-up menu. Then choose your preferred browser on the Open With dialog. When you next run the Belarc Advisor the results will show in your browser.

On Windows Vista: Open Windows explorer to the c:\Program Files\Belarc\Advisor\System\tmp directory (on 64-bit Windows c:\Program Files (x86)\Belarc\Advisor\System\tmp). Then right click on the file named (COMPUTERNAME).html (where COMPUTERNAME is the name of your PC). In the pop-up menu, click Open With and choose your preferred browser from the list, or click Choose Default Program… and then choose your preferred browser. When you next run the Belarc Advisor the results will show in your browser.

On Windows XP: Open the Folder Options windows control panel, and on the File Types tab select the HTML Document file type. Then click the Change… button and choose your preferred i web browser. When you next run the Belarc Advisor the results will show in your browser.

If that doesn’t work for you, open this file:

How to Burn your own Audio CD in Windows Media Player 11

Burn your own Audio CDs

You can use Windows Media Player 11 to burn an audio CD containing any mix of songs or voice recordings from your UltraDisk voice recorders, any audio file you want from your library. Once you’ve burned a CD, you can play it in any standard CD player, such as your home stereo system, your car, or your portable CD player, as well as on your computer. Burning custom CDs makes it easy to listen to your favourite songs anywhere and any time you want.

Before you begin, you need the following:

A Windows XP–compatible CD recorder drive installed in your computer. This can also be called a CD burner, compact disc-recordable (CD-R) drive, or compact disc-rewriteable (CD-RW) drive. See the Windows Compatibility Center for a list of drives that are designed for use with Windows XP.
A blank CD-R disc.

To burn an audio CD

Click the Burn tab, click the arrow below the Burn tab, and then click Audio CD, as shown in the following screen shot.
Insert a blank CD-R disc into the CD burner.
If you have multiple CD burners installed on your computer and the burner you want to use is not the one selected, in the List pane above the playlist, click Next Drive (as shown in the following screen shot) until the CD burner drive you want is selected.

Note that you can only burn CDs to one CD burner at a time.
To add albums, ultradisk voice recordings, songs, or playlists from your Player library, drag them from the Details pane to the List pane to create a list of songs to burn.

If you need to clear the List pane before beginning to build your burn list, click the Clear List pane button .

The Player typically calculates how many minutes and seconds of empty space remain on the disc after each song is added to the burn list, as shown in the following screen shot. However, occasionally the Player may not be able to detect the duration of songs in advance, which means it may not be able to accurately calculate how many songs can fit on a CD. If this occurs, playing the songs on the burn list first may help the Player to determine the correct duration of the songs.

To add a file that is on your computer but not in your library, right-click the file and then click Add to Burn List.
If you have selected more files than can fit on one CD, you can either burn all of the files to multiple CDs or choose to remove files until they all fit on one CD. To do this, right-click the file you want to remove, and then click Remove from List, as shown in the following screen shot. Keep doing this until the files will fit on one CD. Note that removing files from the burn list will not delete the affected files from the library.

It is possible that the last song will not fit even if the total time exactly matches the CD length, because the Player inserts two seconds between songs when burning.
In the list, drag files up or down to arrange them in the order that you want them to appear on the CD. If you have chosen to burn more than one CD at once, make sure that the files are ordered so that they will be burned to the CD you want.
At the bottom of the List pane, click Start Burn.
If you are burning multiple CDs, insert a blank CD when the first one has finished burning, and then click Start Burn. Repeat this step until you have finished burning all of the CDs.

As the CD is burned, you can check its progress in the burn list. Burning a CD will take some time.
