When you first obtain Audacity, it normally cannot export MP3 files. This is because the necessary LAME MP3 encoding technology is patented, and so Audacity as a free, open source program cannot distribute it. However Audacity can use the LAME encoder if you download it separately yourself (or if it’s already present on your computer) and make sure Audacity knows where it is.

basic tips to trouble-shoot the most common problems I come across with Guitar effects pedals.

MY PEDAL DOESNT SOUND RIGHT:
Firstly check the power supply, are you using the recommended supply 9v? If you are using a battery is it over 9 volts? Flat batteries are the cause of a huge % of pedal problems so be aware. Get a decent 9v adapter and try it then.

MY PEDAL MAKES A NOISE OR I HAVE NO LED
Check all your cables, true bypass relies on good connections, that means good cables. Try plugging your guitar into your amp with just one FX box, does it sound right? If it does sound good try adding one pedal at a time, add another and another until it sounds bad, through the process of elimination you can often find the troublesome pedal or cabling. Let me know how you have it set up..

Often you can change the order of your pedals to make your setup sound better and remove issues. Also it could be a combination of two pedals creating the noise so switch the order of them to see if the issue goes. A decent set of patch cables can make a nice difference and prevent any lossy signals.

WHEN I HAVE TWO PEDALS ON IT BUZZES LIKE MAD:
This is often because you are overloading the second pedal with the first, its okay to boost some distortions and fuzz with a light overdrive or a booster but running two fuzzes together often creates a lot of noise, if you must run two pedals together then maybe its time to upgrade to a higher gain distortion or fuzz?!?!?!

WHAT ORDER SHOULD I HAVE MY PEDALS IN:
Most people have octave effects before distortion and fuzz and distortion and fuzz before chorus, phasers, and delays but you don’t need to adhere to this, just experiment and see what sounds best to you as we are all different and like different things, there’s no right way! Have fun experimenting!

CAN I OPEN THE PEDAL AND HAVE A LOOK INSIDE ?:
Lets think about this,,hmmmm,,,NO NO and NO, Please Don’t. Unless you want to void your warranty, put the screwdriver down and send it back..

DVR10 – Dell Media Detect & Acer Clear fi users really should see what programs are configured to startup automatically when your system boots and you login, they are not configured to recognise cd partitions on usb drives. These programs can be removed from startup to save memory and only launched when required.. Autoruns also shows you the full list of Registry and file locations where applications can configure auto-start settings, these processes and applications are required to make applications and the operating system run on start up and often not needed. A good way to clear out unwanted programs and processes hogging resources when they are not needed..

The issue of drive mapping on Windows with USB devices is a commonly researched subject online. Sometime mapping issues can result in the computer becoming unresponsive when the UltraDisk DVR10 is inserted. The DVR10 maps a CD and a remote storage partition to your computer when you insert it. Results depend on the history of the specific machine and the issue is attributed to Microsoft Operating system not releasing historic or corrupt USB id entries. Windows has a tendancy to not release USB information from previous USB devices, most likely through corruption from a previously failed USB device. Even if they are no longer used, in a registry entry called USBSTOR the details remain of every device you have used… A test on another computer would always confirm this issue, the device itself is not faulty.

The following steps will rebuild your USBSTOR when used with the UltraDisk DVR10

Download Listusbdrives.zip list all USB drive details and export details to a text pad.
Download and extract to desktop/folder to run. To generate the txt file output double click on ‘ListUsbDrives_To_Notepad.cmd’
Download Drivecleanup.zip removes all non present storage volumes and USB drives.

If you have used a lot of USB devices, its time you made room for some more..
DriveCleanup V0.8 – removes non present drives from the device tree
Freeware by Uwe Sieber (c) 2007-2011 Removes from the device tree non present
– USB hubs
– USB mass storage devices
– USB Disk devices
– USB CDROM devices
– USB Floppy devices
– USB Storage Volumes
- USB WPD devices (Vista, Win7 only)

When the drives have been refreshed, restart the pc it will reconfigure your operating system USBSTOR, a setting in the windows system that holds onto USB device information, drive letters and registry entries. They will be rebuilt automatically when you restart the computer.

Download UltraDisk Voice Memo Player DVR10 Software to your desktop from:
http://www.ultradisk.co.uk/support-center/kb/article/000140

Insert the DVR10 and launch the software from the desktop the drive letter shown for your recording data is shown in the window at the top, if your pc has not mapped the drive then this can be managed by the following, you may need to manually allocate it, the following article explains.

How to map allocate a drive letter to the UltraDisk DVR10 – Software shows no recordings
When the DVR10 is inserted into an Apple Mac laptop or computer the Mac creates folders that are not compatible with the UltraDisk software (PC) and prevents the recorder from starting correctly.

The .spotlight-v100 and .trashes folders were created automatically by an Apple Macintosh computer system that the USB flash drive was plugged in before.

These two folders are automatically created whenever a USB flash drive is connected to a computer system running an Apple Mac operating system.

Spotlight is a indexing process on the Mac that will save the information that are gathered in the .spotlight-v100 directory.

The .trashes folder on the other hand is simply a trash folder for the specific drive which is also created by Apple Macintosh computer systems.

These files prevent the DVR10 from starting / the led working but can be simply removed by deleting from the remote usb folder when you insert it into a PC. This is the drive with the REC_DATA folder.

As soon as this is done it will start working.
